Better Putting

Thirty to forty percent of all the golf shots we hit are putts. Learning to judge pace and direction on putts requires practice.

http://youtu.be/6HiDztywPnc Reading the borrow or curve on a putt starts as soon as you walk onto the green. Is one side of the green higher than the other? Will you be putting uphill or downhill?

Try to get a feel for this as you walk up to your ball.

When you line up your putt from behind, don’t just look between the ball and the hole – look to the right and left side as well to better judge the possible slope.

Observe the reaction of a playing partner’s ball if they are putting on a similar line.

It is difficult to be absolutely precise about how much to allow on any putt – even for the experienced golfer – so long as you have taken these commonsense factors into consideration quite often the first guess will be the best.
