Alex Sloan (USPGA, GSED, LM)

In 1957 Alex was appointed as the Head Professional at Florence Country Club, Florence, Alabama. Three years later he accepted the position of  Head Professional at the Turtle Point Yatch and Country Club. Alex remained their Professional for 35 years until he retired. 

Alex has spent more than fifty years teaching golf to players of all skill levels. Four Golf Professionals that he taught are now listed in the top 100 (USA) as seen by Golf Magazine.

Alex had the great privilege of being in Homer Kelley’s first class for Authorized Instructors in The Golfing Machine from January 2-11, 1981. He was certified by Homer as a GSEM (Master instructor) and was later designated as a GSED (Doctorate Instructor).

Golf Awards May 20, 1975. From the Alabama Golf Association he was given a plaque honoring me for my Service to golf.

1983 from the Dixie Section of the PGA he was given the Horton Smith Award, Honoring him for his educational contribution to golf.

1986 From the Dixie Section of the PGA awarded for the first time by the section, Teacher of the Year award.

1993, From the Dixie Section, Senior PGA Member of the Year award.

1979, Dixie Section Sr. Golf Champion, Alabama Chapter Sr. Golf Champion and with Bud burns they won the Sr. Division of the Section Pro-Pro Championship.

August 31-September 1, Alex won the age group 60-64 age division of the Dixie Section PGA.

In the spring, 2008, Alex Sloan was inducted into the Lauderdale County Sports Hall Of Fame for his contribution to golf and the golfing community.
